about

Naarm-based synthpop artist InfraGhosts announces her new album Body Heat (due out November 2023) with the release of lead single ‘Simple’.

The unwavering pulse of Laura’s moody vocals and atmospheric synth pads is juxtaposed against palpitating, clap-heavy drum machine syncopation. InfraGhosts’ infectious, rhythmic use of bass guitar has a voice all of its own — which is not to mention her tongue-in-cheek lyrical cynicism.

On ‘Simple’, Laura critiques relentless positivity in statements like “good comes with time”. She responds to such “fine advice” with the melancholic yet powerfully stoic chorus lines: "It’s just never been that simple or that easy / Not in my life, not for me."

lyrics

Shouldn't stress,
Take time to rest,
Try walk the line,
Good comes with time

It's fine advice,
Put in to plan,
All well and nice,
For those who can

It's just never been that simple,
Or that easy,
Not in my life,
Not for me

Sit well and still,
Hold back until,
The time is right,
Though chance it might

Have other plans,
Take other means,
Where others can,
For me at least

It's just never been that simple,
Or that easy,
Not in my life,
Not for me
